| Kumiai indian willow basketry Originally these large willow granaries (schquin in kumiai) were used for storing acorns and other wild seeds and grains. They were usually placed on top of roofs, on special platforms or in the branches of a tree. Today Kumiai artisans continue to coil aromatic willow leaves and branches into a variety of forms and sizes. When gathering, they carefully prune their native willows so that they will grow back with long, flexible shoots for next years harvest. Their charming shapes, fragrance, texture and natural colors provide a natural accent that will complement any decor. IMPORTANT: Please remember that these unique artworks are individually made.
